If you think that you and your loved ones will be OK after the inevitable reorganisation of the NHS, think again. This is not a party political issue. Whatever may be the virtues or otherwise of the government on other issues, on this issue, they have got it wrong. Let’s tell them with one voice. Last year’s May Day celebration was an outstanding success, largely due to all the work put in by Kelly Raveney. This year, she’s at it again and determined to make it better than ever. As part of that, she is encouraging people to make their own costumes and is holding three free workshops to do just that. The first of these is on Saturday 14th January at 11.30am at Pip & Jim’s Hall and will last about three hours. Examples of what she is making are shown below. You can contact Kelly on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Should you feel peckish on your way to Barnstaple, you could do worse than pop into Foxhunter’s Café (in what used to be the car park of the Foxhunter’s Pub). I enjoyed breakfast there recently, and it was good – freshly cooked and friendly people. And, obviously, no problem parking!
Ben Blake is a local author, who has a Kickstarter campaign to fund promotion of his next book, “Black Lord of Eagles”. The book is written (in fact, its sequel is also written), it has a publisher (Blue Poppy) and is due to be published in April. So what is the money for? Well, it’s no use publishing a book if no one hears about it, and that is where the funding comes in – the amount Mr Blake is seeking, a modest £700, will pay for a small advertising campaign. Mr Blake is already a published author – Amazon lists half a dozen books by him, generally with good reviews. You can find the Kickstarter page at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1473817166/black-lord-of-eagles/posts/1773159?ref=backer_project_update. Please take a look and consider supporting it.
On the subject of Kickstarter, Morton Tooley, aided and abetted by his father, the indefatigable and multi-talented Olli Tooley, has launched a Kickstarter plea to raise funds to record and produce an EP CD as a first step to producing a wholly new musical. Another worthy project. So, if you have a bob or two to spare after Christmas and after supporting Mr Blake, how about heading to https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/988709253/the-last-days-are-coming-musical-4-track-ep?. You know you want to.
